The Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute NPTI, founded in September 2004, is the capstone program initiated by the 1999 Battelle Report, A Technology Strategy for Northeastern Pennsylvania. The report encouraged the region to build a knowledge economy by harnessing the intellectual capital and energy from within our institutes of higher education.

Continuing to promote collaboration and regionalism, NPTI:

  • Created the STARS- Strategic Teams Accelerating Regional Stimuli initiative, a cluster development strategy.

  • Manages the Keystone Innovation Zones for Lackawanna and Luzerne County offering sellable tax credits to eligible companies, internships and preferential consideration for Department of Community and Economic Development programs.

  • Continues to identify faculty and equipment accessible to business and industry through an Asset Inventory.

  • Provides technology transfer support as it implements a Technology Transfer Strategy for the region.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute is an initiative sponsored by Northeastern Pennsylvania colleges, universities, economic development groups, private foundations, and industry. A Battelle Memorial Institute study on Northeastern Pennsylvania identified that in order to compete in the “new economy,” the region must build on the assets of its colleges and universities.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute is a member-owned and governed organization.
